Essential Information for Event Planners
The Event Planning Department plans Area-wide events for Leaders, Leader Applicants, health care professionals, and the public that inform, educate, refresh, and build community relations. Conferences and Continuing Education (CE) events also serve as major fund-raisers for many Areas.
Area Event Planning Team
The Event Planning Team coordinates Area-wide events (such as Conferences) for Leaders, families, and health care providers. The Event Team is also available to serve as a resource for Leaders who wish to organize LLL events in their community.
The purpose of an Area Conference is two-fold. It is an enriching and educational meeting of Leaders, Leader Applicants, parents, professionals, and special guests. It is also the major fund-raiser for many Areas.
A large team organizes events. Event Team members work on tasks and committees such as Program, Registration, Publicity, Signs, Bookstore, Ads and Exhibits, Silent Auction, Facility, Children’s Sessions, Family Entertainment, Session Monitor, Treasurer, and publication of informational booklets and fund raising. The Event Team works in close collaboration with the CE Committee and the PL Department to present informative sessions and workshops to Leaders and health care professionals.
Event planning is exciting, fast-paced, and involves creativity and flexibility. The challenge of making these jobs mother-sized while representing La Leche League in our dealings with hotels, professional speakers, businesses, and accrediting organizations, creates many interdependent tasks and interlocking deadlines. To better fit the nature of this work, this Department has evolved into a more flexible team and workgroup approach. We communicate online; this is where many decisions are made, and information is shared and stored. We also meet in person regularly. Area Coordinator of Events (ACE)
The Area Coordinator of Events is responsible for coordinating the work of the Event Planning Team. She helps administer the Area as a member of the Area Department Coordinator (ADC ) Team. She attends LLLI Conferences, USWD TEAM Workshops, Area Conferences, ADC and Area Council meetings.
